Opportunities. They’re all around us. From jobs to friendships to learning opportunities.

What’s stopping you from taking advantage of them?

One thing that might be stopping you, as it’s something I’ve seen within myself at times as well as in some Master Key Coaching clients is this:

Sometimes — too many times! — we fear making that leap of faith.

For whatever reason, instead of jumping into the ”fray,” so to speak, we hang back, almost as if we were awaiting the “perfect shot.”

Unfortunately, perfect shots are few and far between. If ever!

Sometimes, we have to grab an opportunity, even if it’s not exactly the one we want, and run with it.

Sometimes, we have to take the “low paying” job because it MAY LEAD TO the job that we real want!

We may have to do work that we’d rather not do as it may very well BE A STEPPING STONE to the work
we will actually enjoy — and which may make for us our fortune!

We just might have to work with people who rub us the wrong way because those “friends” may CONNECT US WITH the friends that will become our lifetime business partners or employers.

Do you see what I am saying here?

Everyday there are opportunities that you can grab.

Everyday there is something that you can reach for.

It might not be the “ideal.” It may even be the barely wanted.

It’s a start, though.

And it may lead somewhere.

Haanel wrote in The Master Key System that “Life is an unfoldment, not an accretion.”

Sometimes you have to have just enough faith to take a leap, even one that you would normally not take, and allow life to unfold.

Try it. If only for a day or so. See what happens.

I can practically guarantee that you’ll be glad that you did.

In the first Week of The Master Key System, Haanel describes what he calls the “world within” and the “world without.” What did Haanel mean by these terms?

Of course, we don’t have Haanel here as a reference. We can take the message of the book as a whole as clues to what he meant exactly, though.

The world within is one’s mind. It’s one’s thoughts. It’s one’s feelings. As Haanel wrote, it’s forces are mighty — mightier than we think.

The world without, on the other hand, Haanel described as a “reflection of the world within.”

I would make a slight change to that. I would say that the world without is or can be jaded or slanted or skewed by the world within.

The difference is small, but it is significant as we progress in our studies of this philosophy.

The world within can — and often does — alter the world without. Actually, it happens all the time. It’s part of the interplay that happens betwixt the two. It’s what I like to call the “Dance.”

There are many examples of the Dance all about us. Sociologists have been investigating it for quite some time, an example being Phillip Zimbardo‘s Stanford Prison Experiment.

Investor George Soros used Karl Popper‘s theory of “Reflexivity” to make more than a billion dollars trading currency. Popper’s reflexivity is an example of the Dance — the world within influencing the world without and vice versa.

The influence of the world without and the world within (and vice versa) is possible because, as Haanel wrote, we “live in a fathomless sea of plastic mind substance.”

I want to state here that this “plastic mind substance” is not and is not anything related to quantum theory, subatomic particles, or man’s mental influence on said particles as has been portrayed in various movies and books. Personal Development (the attainment of goals within our society) and quantum physics go together much like fish and bicycles. They don’t.

That being said, everything that we see and have and that moves us and influences us are ideas.

This world of ideas — this world in which we swim and which in turn moves us — is what Haanel meant when he wrote “plastic mind substance.” Think how often the world is changed by an idea — an idea that is brought to fruition by one’s actions and daring.

The car, the light bulb, the indoor toilet, the computer, the cellular phone: All ideas that in turn changed us and changed the world in which we “swim.”

Since I’ve been publishing The Master Key System and Charles F. Haanel’s Complete Master Key Course, I’ve received (and answered!) literally thousands of calls and emails about Haanel‘s philosophy of success. From speaking with so many people, I noticed that the vast majority completely miss the point of The Master Key System, thus they’re not getting results.

Most of the observations I make on these calls come from the work I’ve done with my Master Key Coaching clients.

So, what should you really be learning as you read The Master Key System that will actually make a difference in your life?

Since 2000, when I began publishing The Master Key System, I’ve observed how other people, coaches, and publishers advertise or talk about the book. The most common description is that it is the “handbook about the Law of Attraction.”

Surprisingly, I think just the opposite. While the law of attraction is discussed in The Master Key System, it’s not the book’s (or, I dare say, Haanel‘s) main talking point.

From my years of study and coaching, I’ve found five main things you should learn from this philosophy. As you now read and study the book, keep these points in mind — you’ll see the book from a totally different perspective and you’ll reap great rewards from it.

1. You will learn how to focus.
   To be able to focus is the ability to dedicate your mind (your thoughts) to one problem (or goal) for an extended period of time. By mastering this skill, you’ll far outreach most people, who flitter from one thing to the other without result.
2. You will learn how to achieve mental clarity.
   Instead of a brain and thoughts beset with “noise,” you’ll see things clearly — rationally. You will rid yourself of the “shibboleths” of your mind.
3. You will se the things in the world for what they are rather than what they appear to be.
   Instead of seeing symbols and perceptions, you will see things truly — objectively.
4. You will learn the greatest skill of all: how to THINK.
5. You will learn that the Master Key System is really about solving problems.

The Master Key System is not a “magic” book. Merely by reading it will you attain anything. You must put this philosophy into action. You must use it!

If you’re looking to learn how to “manifest,” you will not get that here. Fortunately (or unfortunately), there are plenty of “teachers” that teach that. If you want to learn how to really attain and achieve, then concentrate on discovering the items I listed here. They are the “key” that will unlock you and help you to attain all of your dreams.

To succeed, you must first have a goal. Those who do not establish goals to achieve will fail because they have no objectives to attain. Every human should have a specific and concrete goal to shoot for. Once you reach a goal, to avoid stagnation, you must establish a new goal to strive to reach.

Proverbs 29:18 says,

Where there is no vision, the people perish.

You can give yourself goals to reach without knowing how they will come to pass. Simply concentrating on the goals you want to attain will cause the methods to take care of themselves.

As you visualize all the benefits you’ll gain after reaching your goal, you’re programming your subconscious mind. Visualizing your future gives your subconscious mind goals to reach for you. Establishing a goal for yourself is the first step to whatever you desire. Your subconscious mind cannot work for you unless you give it a goal to reach.

Mental pictures of yourself accomplishing your goal drives it deep into your subconscious mind. As long as you don’t allow thoughts of defeat or fear to stop you, your subconscious mind will show you how to manifest the goal you’ve programmed into it.

Dedicate yourself to the attainment of your goal. Make up your own plan for successful achievement and give it your best shot. Unswerving singleness of purpose and organized activity withdraws universal power. Determine to follow through on your plan without giving mental recognition to the possibility of defeat. Your controlled attention, sustained effort, and concentrated energy unleashes the power of your subconscious mind. Opportunities never come to those who sit around waiting, but to those who are motivated by a burning to desire to act.

Establish a goal for yourself, learn all the details, then do everything you can to achieve it. Exert all your efforts and energies on your goal without listening to the opinions of others. Discussing your plans and goals with others has the potential to bring chaos and confusion in your mind. The information and guidance you receive from your subconscious mind is more important than the opinions of doubters.

You should never discuss your dreams, aspirations, and goals with anyone because everyone has different ideas about how to reach a certain goal. Jesus gave excellent advice when he said, “Go and tell no man.”

I was browsing my copy of The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel, and found myself thinking about the idea of giving and receiving.

I sure do love to give! I get such pleasure from choosing a gift for someone.

But there is another part of the equation… I truly believe that one who enjoys giving should also enjoy receiving.

There cannot be one without another.

After all – in order to give, someone has to receive. And if you are to receive, someone has to give.

As much as I love to give, I also love to receive. If you want to give me a gift, and you are giving it with a glad heart, then bring it on! I absolutely love it!

Again, in order for there to be giving, someone must be able to receive.

In Part 4 of Charles Haanel’s The Master Key System, the idea of giving and receiving comes up in paragraph 20:

Here is the secret of power, of mastery. To overcome does not mean to go without things. Self-denial is not success. We cannot give unles we get; we cannot be helpful unless we are strong. The Infinite is not a bankrupt and we who are the representatives of Infinite power should not be bankrupts either, and if we wish to be of service to others we must have power and more power, but to get it we must give it; we must be of service.

And in the very next paragraph he states, “The more we give the more we shall get…”

Almost sounds a little like the conundrum of what came first, the chicken or the egg? That is, some might ask, “But how can I give what I don’t yet HAVE?”

I like what Mr. Haanel suggests in the passage above – he suggests that “…to get it we must give it; we must be of service.”

We can translate that to, “We must give value.”

It doesn’t necessarily mean we have to give money if we’re still working on receiving it – but we must give something. If you want your boss to write your paycheck next week, you need to do something in exchange. You need to give value.

Let’s say that there is a specific charity you really like – and they are fundraising.

Now, let’s say you have lost your job and you need to feed your family. You don’t have to send the charity a check from your food or rent budget. But you COULD do SOMETHING. You could volunteer a bit for them. You could post an appeal for them on your Facebook profile. You could Tweet their website to your Twitter followers. You could pray for them.

All those activities are giving activities. You are giving value. And you can be sure that if you give freely, and with an open heart, you WILL receive. You will receive the feeling of happiness for having helped another or for having brought joy to another.

Picture yourself giving a gift to a small child, and seeing his face when he opens it with wide eyes and eagerness.

If that in itself puts a smile on your face and in your heart, guess what? You have just received!

Now, go out there and give just for the joy of giving.

What’s the difference between someone who “makes it” — that is, someone who gets what they want out of life and is what we would call successful — and someone who doesn’t?

I’m sure that you ask that question fairly often. I know that I do!

Is it talent?

Intelligence?

Courage?

An “X” factor?

Let’s see. While all of those are helpful, I don’t think that any one of them — or even all of them together — tell the full story.

There are plenty of talented people who won’t “make it.” Frankly, all we have to do is look at what’s on TV sometimes and it’s very easy to come to the realization that actual talent might be pretty low on the list.

The same is true for intelligence. Sure, being smart is good and even desireable, but it’s not a golden ticket to the good life. Far too many times I’ve seen it hinder people rather than help them!

I think that courage is higher on the list. Once again, though, for every “Donald Trump” out there getting face time on the news or “Richard Branson” performing an outlandish stunt, there are probably ten or more “shy” people who are quietly “making it” and living the life of their dreams.

What about an “X” factor — that unknown or undescribale element that we see in some people. Sometimes it’s amazing talent or skill and other times it’s a personal thing, like incredible charm or the “gift of gab.”

The “X” factor does play a role, without a doubt. Not everyone can thrill a crowd or attract our attention like many of the people we see on the news, especially in the entertainment world.

Again, though, it doesn’t tell the full story. Behind the scenes there is the hard work, the talent, and all the other factors that got the person to where they are.

So what is it? What is the difference between the people who “make it” and those who don’t?

The people who make it understand.

Yes, they may have one or more of the items we listed. The deciding factor in “making it” comes from their understanding.

What do they understand?

They understand how “it” works. They understand how to take the things around them and use their abilities to create what they want. They understand the nature of things, especially the things that impact their business, craft, or vocation.

Understanding is not merely knowldege. It’s definitely not rules or dogma or convention. It’s absolutely not rote processes or methods.

It’s sort of like “seeing.” When a person understands, they have a complete — or as close to it as possible — view of what they’re doing and how it interacts with everything around it.

Here’s an example: I’m certain that at some point in your life you replaced the air filter in your car. It’s an easy thing to do. However, do you understand what the air filter does? How it works? Why it’s there? Why you need to replace it? What it does for the car?

Yes, some of that is merely knowldege, but taken together it makes understanding.

And that’s why your mechanic can charge you a small fortune for even the slightest repair on your car!

With this one example I am sure you can see why — and perhaps even how — this idea of understanding is so important to you and your life.

When you make the decision to do something, you have to follow-through completely!

This also highlights something about which I wrote an article many “moons” ago: that the “Master Key” is you.

It’s not something outside you, nor is it something that is separate from you. In the final analysis the Master Key is you and you alone. It is the power of your thoughts, your actions, your perceptions, and your will.

Far too many people quest for something — anything! — to come to their aid, to bring them what they want, to use like a tool.

When you finally come to understand this philosophy, though, you will know that it is you for whom you were looking and no other person or thing.

Commit yourself to attaining your dreams. Commit to learning this wonderful system of self-mastery.

You can do it.

Because you can be what you will to be.

In our study of Haanel and his philosophy of success, the word “gratitude” gets bandied about quite a bit. Whether we practice it or not is another story.

For one day, though, we have the opportunity to take the time to truly count our blessings, be they big or small.

On my refrigerator, my mother kept a little card with a poem on it. Perhaps it’s a prayer. You decide. I’d like to share it with you. It is entitled “I Asked” and the author is unknown.

I Asked

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.

I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things.

I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy.

I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men.

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.

I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken players were answered.

I am among all men, most richly blessed.

It’s been a while since I posted an article. I apologise for my absence. I’ve been busy with quite a few things.

As you know, we’ve been having weekly Master Key Coaching Teleseminars. We made it to Week Fourteen and are well on our way to completing our study of Haanel’s most famous and awesomely inspiring work.

I’ve also been readying a few new and great books for release. One is entitled I Believe, Therefore I Am. It’s an amazing book and I know that you are going to love it.

As I was surfing the ‘Net, I stumbled upon this quote. When I read it, I immediately thought about Haanel, The Master Key System, and what we’ve been discussing on the Master Key Coaching Teleseminars.

The author of the snippet is Ayn Rand, philosopher and author of such works as The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. Love her or hate her, one must admit that she made an impact on the world. Also, whether you love her or hate her, I think you will get a lot from the following quote from her.

“Productive work” does not mean the unfocused performance of the motions of some job. It means the consciously chosen pursuit of a productive career, in any line of rational endeavor, great or modest, on any level of ability. It is not the degree of a man’s ability nor the scale of his work that is ethically relevant here, but the fullest and most purposeful use of his mind.

Charles F. Haanel also had quite a bit to say about productive work. If you’ve been listening to the Master Key Coaching Teleseminars, then you know that. Peruse this excerpt from The Master Key System, for example.

8. The financier gets much because he gives much; he thinks; he is seldom a man that lets any one else do his thinking for him; he wants to know how results are to be secured; you must show him; when you can do this he will furnish the means by which hundreds or thousands may profit; and in proportion as they are successful will he be successful. Morgan, Rockefeller, Carnegie, and others did not get rich because they lost money for other people. On the contrary, it is because they made money for other people that they became the wealthiest men in the wealthiest country on the globe.

9. The average person is entirely innocent of any deep thinking; he accepts the ideas of others and repeats them in very much the same way as a parrot; this is readily seen when we understand the method which is used to form public opinion and this docile attitude on the part of a large majority, who seem perfectly willing to let a few persons do all their thinking for them, is what enables a few men in a great many countries to usurp all the avenues of power and hold the millions in subjection. Creative thinking requires attention.

Of course, this isn’t all that Haanel wrote on the subject. The Master Key System is full of points like this.

Take the time to review them.

Take the time to choose your goal.

Commit yourself to achieving it.

Focus all of your thoughts and all of your energy to accomplishing what you set to do.

You can begin right now. Make the choice to do so.

Edwin Land and Steve Jobs: They visualized what they wanted.

If you’ve been listening to or partaking in the Master key Coaching Teleseminars, then know that we’ve been talking quite a bit about visualization — using your creative imagination to build powerful images of your goal. (If you don’t know this, then you should definitely listen to the episodes that are available and make plans to listen each and every Monday night at 8 pm EST!)

We also know that Nikola Tesla was a practitioner of visualization and stated that he wouldn’t make one move to build his idea until it was clear in his mind.

In an interview, John Sculley, the CEO of Apple from 1983 to 1993, described a meeting between Steve Jobs, the founder and current CEO of Apple, and Edwin Land, the co-founder of Polaroid. Here is what he said.

I remember when Steve and I went to meet Dr Land.

Dr. Land had been kicked out of Polaroid. He had his own lab on the Charles River in Cambridge. It was a fascinating afternoon because we were sitting in this big conference room with an empty table. Dr Land and Steve were both looking at the center of the table the whole time they were talking. Dr Land was saying: “I could see what the Polaroid camera should be. It was just as real to me as if it was sitting in front of me before I had ever built one.”

And Steve said: “Yeah, that’s exactly the way I saw the Macintosh.” He said if I asked someone who had only used a personal calculator what a Macintosh should be like they couldn’t have told me. There was no way to do consumer research on it so I had to go and create it and then show it to people and say now what do you think?

Both of them had this ability to not invent products, but discover products. Both of them said these products have always existed – it’s just that no one has ever seen them before. We were the ones who discovered them. The Polaroid camera always existed and the Macintosh always existed — it’s a matter of discovery. Steve had huge admiration for Dr. Land. He was fascinated by that trip.

Interesting, yes?

It’s somewhat familiar to the interview with Henry M. Flagler that Haanel quoted in Week Sixteen of The Master Key System.

8. The power to create depends entirely upon spiritual power. There are three steps: Idealization, visualization, and materialization. Every captain of industry depends upon this power exclusively. In an article in Everybody’s Magazine, Henry M. Flagler, the Standard Oil multimillionaire, admitted that the secret of his success was his power to see a thing in its completeness. The following conversation with the reporter shows his power of idealization, concentration, and visualization—all spiritual powers:

9. “Did you actually vision to yourself the whole thing? I mean, did you, or could you, really close your eyes and see the tracks? And the trains running? And hear the whistles blowing? Did you go as far as that?”

“Yes.”

“How clearly?”

“Very clearly.”

Even more interesting, is it not?

We set our thoughts into motion by seeking the Silence.

This week in the Master Key Coaching Teleseminars (please click that link so you can download all seven episodes!), I spoke a bit about the “Silence,” which Haanel described as the place where we find our true power. This is the place where one can truly set his thoughts into motion because it is here that he develops his goals, creates his vision, forges his plans, and readies his actions.

The Silence is where we partake in that “hardest of work”: Thinking.

As I wrote in The Master Key Workbook:

Thought is the secret to all attainment. This is because when we think, we set into motion the law of vibration, which carries our thoughts so that they can become reality. The law of love, which works through the emotions, gives these thoughts vitality.

Your level of belief will influence how quickly your dreams become reality. Look at it this way: When you believe that something is easily attainable, then you step quickly to attain that desire. On the other hand, when you believe that what you want is “out of your reach” or a “pipe dream,” then you stall and stutter on your way, which either drastically slows your journey or impedes it completely.

We set our thoughts into motion by seeking the Silence. It is in the Silence that we can be still, and when we are still, we can think, and thought is the secret to all attainment.

As we think something more and more and see it clearer and clearer, it finally becomes automatic in our mind. We really know what we think. It moves from being a mere thought to a fact. “We are sure; we know.”

The exercises in The Master Key System teach us how to use the Silence, but we must make the effort to find the Silence first. Those who do not are depriving themselves of the place where they will find and develop their thoughts.

Do your best to enter the Silence at least once per day — either in the morning or at the end of the day.

Without distractions, without clutter, without “noise,” you will discover something perhaps you’ve never experienced: yourself.

Haanel wrote about Tesla in Week Seven of The Master Key System.

10. The inventor visualizes his idea in exactly the same manner. For instance, Nikola Tesla, he with the giant intellect, one of the greatest inventors of all ages, the man who has brought forth the most amazing realities, always visualizes his inventions before attempting to work them out. He does not rush to embody them in form and then spend his time in correcting defects. Having first built up the idea in his imagination, he holds it there as a mental picture, to be reconstructed and improved by his thought. “In this way,” he writes in the Electrical Experimenter, “I am enabled to rapidly develop and perfect a conception without touching any- thing. When I have gone so far as to embody in the invention every possible im- provement I can think of, and see no fault anywhere, I put into concrete the prod- uct of my brain. Invariably my devise works as I conceived it should; in twenty years there has not been a single exception.”

How is this mental accuracy — this mental clarity — obtained?

Haanel wrote,

13. Clearness and accuracy are obtained only by repeatedly having the image in mind. Each repeated action renders the image more clear and accurate than the preceding, and in proportion to the clearness and accuracy of the image will the outward manifestation be. You must build it firmly and securely in your mental world—the world within—before it can take form in the world without, and you can build nothing of value even in the mental world unless you have the proper material. When you have the material you can build anything you wish, but make sure of your material. You cannot make broadcloth from shoddy.

Everyday I take a break from my work when I get to the point of being tired of what I am doing, and I usually go play basketball. The breaks that I enjoy the most are when I am alone on the court. Uninterrupted.

I shoot, shot after shot. I enjoy trying to perfect my shot. I have an inner desire to become gifted. I have come to the point where I know what I need to do to consistently make shots, but I just don’t consistently do what I need to do.

The rim lets me know how I am doing. I love having it’s instant feed back. The loud clang of the rim challenges me to become better, and the soft swish of the net rewards me.

But today, I realized that the rim’s instant feed back is unnecessary.

I realized that I already knew if the shot was off course even before it hits the rim. I know by how I feel during the shot. I know if it is too short, or sailing wide left, and I know if the shot is perfectly on track.

I realized that I was concentrating on the result and not on how I felt during the shot. I was fixed on making my next shot (the destination of the ball), but not on how I should feel during the shot (the journey).

When I let go of my fixation on making shots and instead focused on how I felt during the shots, an amazing thing happened. I made way more shots. Why? I got rid of my self imposed pressure on the result, and became free to follow how I felt during the journey. I didn’t care if I made or missed a shot; I only cared if I was focused on feeling what I knew I should be feeling during the shot.

Our lives are the same way. We want to succeed so badly that we become fixated on succeeding. Our every thought and desire is to succeed in whatever thing it is. Sometimes we want to succeed badly enough that we do things against our conscience and better judgement. You see this happening in our schools. Students want to pass a class without putting in the work, so they turn to cheating, and when they aren’t caught, they continue cheating.

The world has recently seen what this pattern of cheating leads to in the likes of Bernard Madoff and Allen Stanford. They wanted to succeed so badly in their financial businesses, that they lied and cheated for decades. They took their new investor’s money and gave it to their old investor’s, pretending that this money came from legitimate investments.

They let their fixation on succeeding rule their actions and look what it brought. It brought devastation to thousands of honest people who invested in their lies. It brought families heartache and devastation.

In the words of Joshua Marcus Manuel, “It hurts to look at yourself in the mirror and hate yourself, look into the mirror and wonder what ever happened to that smile that used to shine so bright. When you look at yourself, you see this version of ‘you’ that your mind has created, someone that has become so distant and cold that nobody wants to be around. Empty eyes. Fragile bones. The only thing you have left are the lies you tell yourself everyday to survive, lies that have become your painful reality, lies that will swallow you whole and crush your insides, lies that have turned you into someone you never wanted to be.”

Let go. Let go of those fixations that are preventing you from living a successful life. The way to success and happiness comes from letting go and following your heart, from being in harmony with yourself.

Look at what this did for Mother Teresa. For over 45 years, she ministered to the poor and the sick. She lead 610 missions in 123 countries for people with AIDS, leprosy and other illnesses. She dedicated her life to being in harmony with her conscience; she was her best self.

What things do you need to let go of?

Let go of them.

What things does your heart ache to achieve?

Achieve those things of your heart and live a life of success in harmony and happiness. Remember, “It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them.” (Mark Twain) and “A great man shows his greatness by the way he treats little men.” (Thomas Carlyle)

Tony’s Comments: If you’re doing the exercises in The Master Key System, then you know that quite often Haanel instructs you to let go, both mentally and physically. This is a method of relaxation, which is somewhat key to truly understanding and getting results from Haanel’s philosophy.

When I am consulting with Master Key Coaching clients, one of the things we often do is practicing letting go. I’ve seen it do some amazing things. As one lets go, they lose the tension and they clear their mind. When that happens, they are not “tied” to the goal in a debilitating way; rather, they allow themselves to move fluidly and with agility.

In The Master Key Workbook, I wrote

Many people dwell on the past. “It’s not my fault, Your Honor. I had a bad childhood.” Have you heard that before? How about “My mother was never there. She didn’t love me enough.” Have you heard a person explain with that excuse why they encounter one bad relationship after another?

Let go of the past. It is gone. Bring yourself into the Now. Why dwell on something that happened many years ago? If you’ve encountered failures, then try something new! The movie Vanilla Sky provides us with a wonder- ful thing to remember.

Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

What goes for the past is true of the future. If you are not making plans, then why are you worrying about the future? Worry and anxiety are some of the biggest wastes of mental energy. They cause us to fear and many times they throw us into a state of paralysis. Keep your thoughts courageous and in the Now. You will be happy that you did.

Letting go may not be easy at first, but with practice you’ll get there. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to let go with ease.

As Haanel wrote, “You will not succeed the first time you try, but practice makes perfect, in this as in everything else…”

Do these teleseminars replace your Master Key Coaching Program?

No. Not at all. The Master Key Coaching Program is one-on-one personal coaching. It’s the difference between taking a class and asking a question during class to having a personal tutor or meeting the teacher after class for one-on-one time. It’s the difference between working out with a group and hiring a personal trainer. In both cases, the latter is more effective, more intense, and you’ll get more out of it. Of course, it also requires much more commitment.

In other words, the Master Key Coaching Program and the Master Key Teleseminars are two different animals.

Are you planning on having webinars?

Yes, we are. The Head Coach for the Master Key Coaching Program, James Spooner, will be running those. They will begin about two weeks after these teleseminars begin.

Can I ask any question at all during the call?

The calls will run like this: We’ll open the call and I will deliver a ten to twenty minute monologue. The topic of the monologue will be about a key point in The Master Key System, an observation I had with a Master Key Coaching client, something like that. I think that you’ll find them interesting and informative.

After that monologue, we’ll go into the questions and answers. I ask that the questions be “limited” to what the main topic of the evening is. For example, if we’re discussing something in “Week Two,” I don’t think it would be helpful to entertain questions pertaining to “Week Twenty-Two.” Does that make sense?

As many of you know, I’m pretty flexible with things. I am here to be a resource for you, so just about everything is fair game. I will do my best to accomodate everyone, answer all questions, and do both in a timely and efficient manner.

Goals.

If you’ve been into personal development for a mere five minutes then you’ve heard of them. Even if you’ve never cracked a book like The Master Key System or Think & Grow Rich I am highly confident that you’ve not only heard them mentioned, but you’ve even set a few goals for yourself.

I receive emails from people around the world. I recently received the following email from a fellow who needs help discovering what he really wants. He also has a question regarding the number of goals he can set. Here is what he wrote to me.

Dear  Tony,

I have been thinking about this question: What do I really want? Must it be one thing or many things? I had been changing my desire because of feeling like this is not what I really want. How do I find my real inner-most desire?

From my years of studying and practicing and coaching this material, I emailed to him what I think is a good response to a question (to a few questions, actually!) that we all have. What follows is my response in full.

Thank you for your email. Your question is one of the main reasons I have discerned that people don’t succeed often despite their talent, ingenuity, and drive. Without knowing where you want to go, chances are great that you’ll get there — and that “there” may not be where you want to be. So, it behooves you to decide what you want; that way, you can form a plan to attain it.

Must it be only one thing? Yes and no. You see, we can have different goals, or “levels” of goals. I consider business and lifestyle goals to be what I call the “grand goals,” those goals that impact our entire life. If you decide that you want to become a doctor, then that’s a grand goal because every aspect of your life will be influenced by that decision — you’ll have to devote time to school, you’ll have to work to earn money to attend school and live while you’re in school, your friends will become fellow students, your role models will become your teachers and doctors, and your future will be in many ways decided.

You also have a level of goals that are what I consider “secondary” goals. You may want a new car. Well, your grand goal will help you to attain the car (or cars) that you desire. The same for your house and your sundry possessions.

Along with those goals, we also have goals for our relationships, our spiritual life, our hobbies … Everything! Just think about when you decide that you needed a new shirt. Well, that’s a goal! You go to the store and endeavor to find a shirt that you like at a price that is a good deal for you.

What I have found is that the grand goal is the most important one. It’s the one where we are called to stretch ourselves. It should be one that motivates us and practically compels us to take action — lots and lots of persistent action and hard work. That’s why many authors advise people to pick a goal that is not only financially rewarding, but one that we enjoy. (I will say here that just because you enjoy something does not mean that you will earn lots of money doing it. That’s where a person can make a choice between complete enjoyment (emotional reward) and compensation (financial reward). Think about it this way: we all want to be rock stars and movie stars; a lot of people actually embark on making that dream a reality; but very few actually attain that goal and the ones that stick through it even though they don’t “make it” are the ones that truly love the art.)

How can you find your “innermost desire”? I cannot answer your question completely in this email, but I did write a book that will help you find your goals and form a plan for their attainment. It’s The Master Key Workbook and it is based on Haanel’s The Master key System. Here is where you can find it -

The book is replete with written and mental exercises (You can view a few examples here) that will help you discover what you really want. It will also start you on the path for planning the attainment of those goals.

How did she do this?

How silly of you to ask! She did it just the way that Haanel describes in The Master Key System.

She visualized what she wanted. (She set her goal.)

When you set definite goals, it becomes easier to hit a "hole in one."

She made plans to make it happen. (She used inductive reasoning to create action steps for the attainment of her goal.)

When you think correctly, you create beautiful "rooms" in your mind, just like Lena created beautiful rooms in her bed & breakfast. "As within, so without."

She took action! (She worked hard because, as Haanel wrote, the law of success is service.)

You can take possession of that which you deem to be yours. You must take action to make it happen!

She solved problems. (When she hit a bump in the road, she didn’t panic; she allowed the Law of Attraction to guide her to a solution.)

Success comes to those who solve problems. After all, a goal is nothing more than a problem.

The results speak for themselves.

In 2010, make it your mission to select a goal — a big, lofty, worthy, and juicy goal! — and work toward its attainment.

It may not be easy, but the good things in life seldom are easy. You’ll work harder than you ever have before, but all that work is good for the soul. You may have to leave the old behind you, but what’s beyond the horizon may be better than you imagined.

It just may be your little piece of Heaven on Earth.

If you’ve already read that piece, then please read it again. I think that it bears repeating and re-reading.

As I speak with clients who are enrolled in the Master Key Coaching Program, as I email with people who have purchased the Complete Master Key Course, and even as I just speak with people in my day-to-day life, one thing that comes into the conversation all too often is the fear — or worry — they are feeling about the economic times in which we live.

Some people are fearful about losing their job. Some are facing having to deal with having their work hours cut. Many businesses are scrambling to find the credit they need in order to stay afloat.

You too have probably heard all of that — and more!

While what we are going through is bad enough —and perhaps even too much for some people — some people are even predicting that things will get worse.

So what’s one to do?

That’s the question I tackle in this article, “The Master Key Is You.” So please read it — again, if that is the case.

Other than that, while there is no one set answer to the question about what you can do since everyone’s situation is different in some respect, there are things you can do to prepare yourself.

One is that you can learn how to tune in, unlock, and attain by using what you learn in The Master Key System.

There’s a reason why Haanel’s book has been around for almost one hundred years. The reason is that when you put into practice the philosophy that Haanel espouses, you significantly improve your chances at succeeding massively!

You can also read the other books on my list of the only ten books you need to read to succeed. I limit my list to only ten because I want to see people take what they learn and spring into action rather than immerse themselves in countless books. Take the time to learn and once you have learned, then take the time to act!

It is only through your actions that you will yield results.

One other great way to prepare yourself is to work with a good coach or an able consigliere.

A good coaching relationship will not only help you stay positive or teach you about concepts, it will — it should! — be a relationship in which you are pushed, prodded, and expected to do better than you are. You will have a person who can look at your situation objectively and who will help you formulate the best “plan of attack” for overcoming any problems you are encountering.

In other words, your coach should help you to think differently so that you can attain what you want.

This can be a very powerful relationship, so I highly recommend that you explore the possibility of one.

Other than those things, I can only reiterate what I wrote in this article: don’t worry irrationally, be prepared, and do what you must do.

As Haanel wrote in The Master Key System,

Life is an unfoldment, not an accretion. What comes to us in the world without is what we already possess in the world within.

Be prepared. Be vigilant. Be ready to act. You will succeed.

In other words, tune in, unlock, and attain!

As some may know, back in 2003, I began a Group on Yahoo!: The Master Key Group. It now has over 600 members and is quite active.

Recently, a discussion developed regarding how things “manifest.” As you may or may not know, I am not a fan of the modern idea of manifestation, especially as presented by many of the “new wage” gurus and “husteldorks” out there. [For my view of manifesting, please see this article that I wrote: "How the Idea of “Manifesting” Is Ruining Your Chances of Success."]

The debate was raging when a member of the Group wrote what I am about to post here. What he wrote was so well-written and eloquent—and in my view spot on accurate—that I wanted to share it with you here. I even sent the fellow a book of his choice free of charge. (He chose The Master Key Workbook, just so you know.)

The way I see this, there are two opposing camps, two polar opposite schools of thought regarding how to accomplish things.

The purists of the materialist school would say that “manifesting” as spirit is a bunch of superstitious, new-age gobbledegook; it sees the idea of trying to visualize things into existence as naive in the extreme. There is no free lunch. Whatever you accomplish you achieve through your own efforts.

The purists of the mentalist school of thought would say that the “All is Mind“ and what we consider to be physical, objective reality is the mental activity of the All, of which we are a part, and of which Mind—our minds—are parts. Consequently by changing the inner we can change the outer; no specific activity is required on our part, whatever we desire to manifest will simply come to be through diligent visualization.

Notice I said above the purists of both schools think along those lines. And like most purists, I think they’re both extremely naive, simplistic, and completely wrong. In short, they’re full of it.

As with many, many, many things in life, the answer lies squarely in the middle. [Tony: I have often found this to be true as well, especially in philosophical debates.]

To the pure materialists, I say that you can work as diligently and as relentlessly and as hard as possible for decades and you will never reach your goal without a plan and the ability to evaluate and change that plan in favor of new approaches based on your result—both of these activities have absolutely nothing to do with work and everything to do with mental activity.

To the pure mentalists, I say that unless you are some kind of magician as powerful as King Solomon, you can’t just think things into existence. If that were possible then none of you would have any of the myriad problems you’re in this program to overcome. Remember that old Chinese proberb: “A man who waits for a roast duck to fly into his mouth must wait a very, very long time.” [Tony: This is why I am fond of saying that I'd rather hire or work with a person who is ready, willing, and able to take action rather than a "self-helper" who would sit around and "visualize" all day trying to "use" the Law of Attraction.]

My personal belief is that we should do the mental work as prescribed by Haanel: not just plan-laying, but visualization of the “emotionalized thought” variety, diligently. [Tony: In later articles that will appear on this blog, I will be detailing what you should be getting from reading and studying The Master Key System. Here's a hint: It's not learning about how to use the Law of Attraction.] And then we need to get out into the real world, start pushing buttons, meeting people, inquiring, making contacts, trying new approaches, etc., all with the end in mind of reaching that goal, bearing ever in mind that it may come to us through avenues completely unanticipated, seeming to have little or nothing to do with our efforts. We need to do the mental work and then put ourselves in the places we need to be in order for it to give us what we need to bring our intention about.

I’m reminded of another old quote I heard years ago. “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” (St. Augustine, I believe.) [Tony: Yes, it was St. Augustine who said that.]

So, form your plan, build your mental images, and then get out there and make it happen!

In other words, in the area of seminars and public speaking, David knows his stuff! I mean, he really knows his stuff.

Get Your Money Where Your Mouth Is is David’s book about, as the cover states, “How to Use Seminars and Public Speaking to Market and Promote Your Business, Profession, or Passion — Profitably.”

Once again, in other words, if you’re looking to survive these tough economic times, if you’re looking for a way to cheaply and efficiently market your business, if you’re looking for a good way to make you indispensable in your job, if you’re looking for a way to advance your career, then you need to read David’s book and, more importantly, put what he teaches you into practice.

(Or, as Haanel wrote in The Master Key System, “In the first place, we must put our knowledge into practice. Nothing can be accomplished in any other way. The athlete may read books and lessons on physical training all his life, but unless he begins to give out strength by actual work he will never receive any strength; he will eventually get exactly what he gives; but he will have to give it first. It is exactly the same with us; we will get exactly what we give, but we shall have to give it first. It will then return to us many fold, and the giving is simply a mental process, because thoughts are causes and conditions are effects; therefore in giving thoughts of courage, inspiration, health, or help of any kind we are setting causes in motion which will bring about their effect.”)

That brings us to what getting your money where your mouth is is. For that, let’s have David explain it himself.
